Beaverton’s Art World School is expanding. Although we provide a traditional and classic art program,
we are evolving. We are now offering a variety of teaching methods including online and remote learning. No
matter what adjustments are made over the upcoming years our program will always contain the same belief
system. We as educators will never stop providing encouragement and will continue to teach the development
of basic skill sets that students can take with them out into the world.
What makes Art World School at Beaverton different?
The teachers and faculty here at the Art World School of Beaverton continually put our students first. Our
educators commit to far more than just work within the classroom. For example, they act as mentors outside of
class, are always happy to help build IB/AP art portfolios, answer questions, or give suggestions when needed.
In addition to the advanced and remarkably talented faculty we work with, it is also the students here at Art
World School of Beaverton that make a splash. For example, we encourage our students to participate in any of
the events that take place. For example, art shows, art competitions, art demonstrations, etc. Several of our
alumni have gone on to be designers, artists, teachers, web designers, and even animators for Pixar, while others
perused careers utilizing their artistic skills. Those who went into other career fields were able to utilize the
skills they acquired here. In addition, students who have studied here have also gone on to win numerous state,
national, and internal level art competitions. It is through these competitions’ students gained true experience
which taught them how to use art in other ways including advocacy and helping the community.
As a school, we hold strong values and beliefs that innovation and creativity will determine the future. This is
why we believe students must possess strong fundamental skills in the arts and then take their talents further
using their own unique twist. Therefore, our students can develop and grow into their own, one-of-a-kind,
All of our classes feature a one-on-one teaching direction. This method allows the student to learn new subject
matter step by step in order to possess the knowledge to create a wonderful piece of new artwork later and on
their own. Next, we practice the newly taught methods and techniques through a variety of avenues. Once
students have grasped the basic idea and concept, they are encouraged to add their own sense of design and
imagination. Every class here at the Art World School of Beaverton includes a review of previous knowledge
and the learning of new concepts.
Our fine art students taking classes in our Fall Day Camp program, in person or online small group or one-on-one classes have been working hard to learn more artistic skills through imitating works of masters as well as creating their original works of art. In our Fall Day Camp Program, located in our Portland location, have been experiencing more types of art such as paint pouring an gauche on rice paper. Fine art students have been working on their individual art projects which include imitating Van Goghs to painting their own pets with acrylic and watercolor. They have also been portraying still life scenes with mediums such as oil pastels, soft pastels, watercolor, and sketching. In our Fall Day Camp Program, students also experience different types of 3D art with pop-up card making and clay. Students have the option of taking one class or a series of classes in our Fall Day Camp Program, which is our After School Program for this school year. New Students are welcome to come take a trial classes of their choice to experience what Art World School has to offer!
Students in our Fall Day Camp have completed many amazing art projects in our afternoon fine art, clay, arts and crafts, and 3D art classes. They received tutoring from our teachers for their Distance Learning classes in the mornings and then take our art related classes in the afternoons to enrich their days. We also have yoga, calligraphy, and Chinese Mandarin classes in the afternoons. Our new Fall Day Camp this year is our new after school program that has been adapted to better suit student needs this year, in response to Beaverton School District and Portland School District changes for the safety of students. Here at Art World School, students are able to completed all of their course for Distance Learning with tutoring help from our teachers, then get some exercise with our yoga classes, and then do some hands on activities with our other enrichment courses. Classes are limited to a maximum of 8 students and everyone is required to wear a mask at at times, as well as follow all social distancing guidelines. We have also been keeping the school sparkling clean and sanitized at all times, with frequent cleanings before and after classes.
Today in Art World School students learned about metamorphosis and how different bugs and insects will undergo metamorphosis to grow from a little caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. They learned that the process of metamorphosis involves change and adaptation and to reflect that, each student would draw one process of a bugs metamorphosis and then pass it on to another student to draw the next step of the metamorphosis to reflect the same kind of change and adaptation in drawing and painting styles. In addition, students also explored the differences between insects, bugs, and arachnids and recreated / created their own kinds of crawling creatures. Finally, students participated in an iconic project that many returning students remember called the "boat project". The boat project, in respects to this weeks theme, explores how bugs and insects interact their way on the water. Through their understanding of how insects, such as the Water Strider, are able to seamlessly float across the water surface through their manipulation of surface tension, they created boats and applied these ideas to create boats that are able to also float and support weights across a small body of water!
Join us next week for the exciting week filled with the future, time travel, and space exploration!
This week's theme at Art World School is all about bugs, insects and the rainforest! We're exploring arthropods and their behaviors in their respective environments. So far we've explored the intricacies of the Blue Morpho Butterfly and their deceptive blue wings that are actually red but reflect light to make it look blue. In addition, students have also recreated the Spicebush Swallowtail Caterpillar, a tiny caterpillar that disguises itself as a snake to ward off predators. Many students have also had a lot of fun making Flying Snakes out of paper and using them as scarves. Students have also had a fun time doing bug themed yoga poses such as ladybug and dragonfly pose. However, bugs aren't the only animals that the kids have explored! We've also learned about how some snakes in the rainforest can "fly" up to 25 meters through the air from tree to tree. They've also learned the importance of animal conservation through model making of Pandas and the elusive and endangered Rosy Maple Moth.
We hope to see more students next week for our theme of Traveling to the Future, a week filled with learning about new technologies, space travel, time travel and much much more!
